Committees & Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer with NCHRA – a great way to connect to the North Country area Human Resources community, grow your skills, and have a lot of fun with others committed to supporting the professional growth of HR practitioners. Volunteers on all committees must be current members of the NCHRA chapter. You will be contacted by a member of our Board of Directors.
The Workforce Readiness Committee will work diligently to provide information to the community about resources, organizations, and topics of interest revolving around the workforce of our community. The committee will direct business professionals to new and unexplored avenues to find qualified employees. In addition, this committee markets NCHRA by selectively volunteering at various events throughout the year, hosting events and forming partnerships with local community organizations.
The Foundation Committee’s mission is to champion workforce and workplace transformation by promoting and educating NCHRA members about SHRM Foundation programs and activities. The committee’s focus will be to organize fundraisers that support the SHRM Foundation and in turn, support educational scholarships to educate the local membership and their families. The Foundation Committee is committed to making change happen and enhance opportunities for HR professionals to make a difference in their local communities.
The Membership committee is responsible for managing the recruitment and retention of chapter membership by marketing the benefits of membership, welcoming new members, hosting an annual celebration event and staying connected to current members through regular communications.
The mission of the Professional Certification and College Relations committee is to promote the education of HR professionals and students through career development, continuing education, scholarship, and professional certification. This committee works to strengthen the relationship with NNY community organizations, to promote HR related educational and professional development opportunities for NCHRA members.
The Chapter’s legislative advocate is the Chapter’s representative to state and federal legislative events. The advocate is responsible for updating the Board and Chapter each month on legislative issues and publishing to our members, and legal information that meets our members’ needs.
For the North Country Human Resources Association, this means sharing information from SHRM and governmental bodies regarding how recently passed, modified, or proposed legislation may impact the world of work for HR professionals in the North Country. Additionally, the Government Affairs Volunteer Chair shares information regarding major federal and state speeches, budgets, and committee actions, breaks them down, and puts them in context.
In partnership with SHRM’s Advocacy Team (A-Team), the Government Affairs Volunteer Chair also seeks to change the HR professional’s role in government from reactionary to direct proactive engagement. SHRM’s A-Team sends out information to regional Advocacy Captains regarding the SHRM’s policy priorities for the year, as well as call to actions on legislation SHRM advocates for or against. These voluntary call to action messages are shared with NCHRA members to determine whether they wish to use SHRM’s prepared messages in conveying SHRM’s stance to federal policymakers. They are also provided with context as to why SHRM is in favor or against the legislation, and how it impacts the world of work. SHRM/ A-Team’s motto: Policy, not Politics.
The Diversity Committee works diligently with the surrounding communities to seek out new ideas and perspectives. This Diversity committee seeks to find new members from underrepresented groups to enhance the diversity of the chapter, as well as connect members in the community with workforce readiness initiatives. In addition, this committee markets NCHRA by selectively volunteering at various events throughout the year, hosting events and forming partnerships with local community organizations.
